Madushi Raththagala is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Skidmore College, where she has been a faculty member since 2017. She graduated with a B.Sc (Honors) from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University and, then did her postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins University and University of Kentucky. By using a variety of biophysical and biochemical techniques including X-ray crystallography, small angle scattering, and hydrogen deuterium mass spectroscopy, her lab intends to understand how structure informs function of proteins. Current research projects focus on regulation of reversible starch phosphorylation in transitory starch metabolism. She has expertise in glucan phosphatase family of proteins in plant energy metabolism and neurodegenerative Lafora disease.
